Catherine Ford was raised in Bloomsbury by her mother and grandmother. When she was a young girl, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to the word association. Ford began to become attracted to acting in her teenaged years, and joined the National Youth Theatre. Ford was accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after only a week she decided it wasn't for her. Ford then applied for a place at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was admitted on her fourth attempt. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's fellow students. The actor went on to get recurring roles as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford's debut on TV was an episode in 1991 called Surgical Spirit. By the time she graduated, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate began her TV debut in 1991, appearing in shows such as The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Apart from her regular performances in the theatre, Tate also joined in the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate received recognition for her comedy stand-up, which was added to her resume in the year 1996.
